Pussy Riot - Picobuna (srb)

To nije najzapaljiviji i najprostačkiji tekst u repertoaru "Picobune".

Pussy Riot(s)

You don't hear much about "Occupy" protests in USA, or Arab Spring in Bahrein and Saudi Arabia but when 3 girls organize a "Pussy Riot" against Putin in Moscow, that is a big deal. A Moscow court has sentenced three members of Pussy Riot to two years in a medium-security prison for "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred and enmity". Punishment is so strict that similar protests would not be repeated in the future. Their song, styled to sound like an Orthodox prayer to Virgin Mary, made extensive use of profane language. It criticized Putin and alleged corruption within the Russian Orthodox Church.

“By their actions, Samutsevich, Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina seriously disrupted public order and the day-to-day running of the Cathedral. They showed blatant disrespect to church-goers and workers, and in doing so gravely offended their religious sensibilities,” Judge Syrova said.

Syrova was taken under state protection after receiving a barrage of threats following Pussy Riot's final testimonies in court last Wednesday.
The five months the girls have already spent in custody will count as time served. The infamous case has been sparked international interest for the last few months, with high-profile figures both condemning the three women and offering their support. Many branded the trial as politically motivated. Bandmember Nadezhda Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot said that she did not regret her actions: “No, of course not. We’re happy that we unexpectedly became the epicenter of such a large political event in which so many different forces are in play,” she told Russian news magazine Novaya Gazeta.

“I don’t believe in the court’s decision at all… There is no court. It is an illusion.” - “The whole world is saying that we are not guilty. They talk about it at concerts, on the internet, in the press and in parliament. The whole world is saying ‘they’re not guilty!’" said Ekaterina Samutsevich during the women’s final testimonies in court. The trial “embodied a travesty of justice” based on an “absurd act that has snowballed into an enormous catastrophe,”Maria Alyokhina said. The politically-charged “punk prayer” was not a personal attack on Putin, but on the political system he created, she said. In their "political bravery" they called the patriarch a "bitch".

The leader of the Ukrainian activist group Femen took a chainsaw to a cross in Kiev in protest of Pussy Riot’s trial.

The case has apparently divided Russian society into those who think Pussy Riot’s actions deserve to be punished harshly, and those who think there was no criminal intent. A July poll conducted by Levada Center, a prominent Russian polling agency, showed that 58 per cent of Russians believed that the punishment demanded by the prosecution was too harsh, while only 33 per cent agreed that it was adequate.

Human rights groups such as Amnesty International and the Moscow-Helsinki Group rallied behind the women, saying they were victims of political persecution. Several Russian artists and intellectuals signed a petition calling for them to be released on bail and for their criminal charges to be replaced with administrative ones. As the trial went ahead, international superstars such as Paul McCartney, Madonna, Sting, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Faith No More and a handful of other legendary pop and rock artists and ensembles voiced support for Pussy Riot. The public in Russia and throughout the world also staged rallies to back the women on trial. Many protesters wore balaclavas and garb similar those worn by Pussy Riot. Some went as far as to sew their mouths shut, and to stage a fake crucifixion. Even the U.S. State Department officials said that they were concerned about "Pussy"“We urge Russian authorities to review this case and ensure that the right to freedom of expression is upheld,” State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said. From now on it's ok to say "Pussy" in public and diplomatic speech.

Who is Pussy Riot

The Russian government views them as criminals. The Russian Orthodox Christian church views them as heretics and blasphemers. The internet views them as a Youtube phenomenon, and the punk scene views them as something exciting, an angry energetic female machine that could quite possibly be the second coming of Riot Grrrl. The identities of the group's members, said to number 10 permanent members, is kept secret, and they wear brightly colored outfits and balaclavas to their protests, inviting others to join in wearing disguises as well.

The group got their start staging miniature flash protests in locations like the Moscow Metro, performing short, fast politically charged punk songs that are harshly critical of Vladimir Putin's government, specifically its restrictive stance on women's issues. From that point, the scale of the venues chosen for their unsanctioned performances grew in scale, including a concert from the roof of a detention center where protest leader and blogger Alexei Navalny was being held in police custody on December 14, 2011. There, the band was able to catch authorities off guard, staging their performance before making a hasty escape. But it was the group's next performance - in Moscow's Red Square on January 20, 2012 - that launched the band to international news outlets as well as landing eight of the group's members in police custody. After being released after paying a fine, the collective was not ready to stop. On February 21, 2012, they took their protest to Christ the Savior Cathedral, where four members played at protest set that lasted less than five minutes, and included the song "Holy Shit", before it was halted.
In their songs they are calling for revolution in Russia (arab spring style): "The Egyptian air is good for the lungs. Do a Tahrir on the Red Square. Spend a violent day among strong women..."(Raze The Pavement) - "A rebellious column moves toward the Kremlin,Windows explode inside FSB offices. Bitches piss behind the red walls. Riot calls for the System’s Abortion! Attack at dawn? Am not against it...Revolt in Russia - the charisma of protest. Revolt in Russia – Putin got scared. Revolt in Russia - We Exist! Revolt in Russia – Riot! Riot! Take to the streets. Live on the Red. Set free the rage of civil anger." (Putin Got Scared) - "Take away the guns from all the cops..."(Death to Prison, Freedom to Protest) ...In a dictatorship this wouldn't pass with just 2 years in jail. So, I wouldn't call it freedom of speech, would you? This insisting on freedom of speech card by western democracies could easily backfire in their face. Western leaders have forgotten that Russia has already had its revolution. They have forgotten about protesters in their own backyard. So when they speak about human rights one word occurs to me: HYPOCRISY!

Lonmin massacre - South Africa

Police have been accused of a massacre after opening fire on mine workers in one of the deadliest days of protest in South Africa  since the end of apartheid. In scenes that evoked memories of some of the country's darkest days, national television showed pictures of police in helmets and body armour shooting at workers on Thursday amid shouting, panic and clouds of dust at Lonmin's Marikana platinum mine. After three minutes of gunfire, bodies littered the ground in pools of blood. The South African police ministry said more than 30 striking miners had been killed. (source)

The violence reportedly flared when police laying out barricades of barbed wire were outflanked by some of an estimated 3,000 miners massed on a rocky outcrop near the mine.  Two police officers were killed while trying to disperse the crowd earlier in the week. Witnesses claimed that some of the miners were armed with pistols and fired first, while also charging the police with machetes and sticks. Reuters photographs showed spears and clubs lying near the bodies. An urgent independent investigation is required to determine exactly what happened; and who is responsible for this massacre. The families of everyone involved, and indeed the nation, deserve to know how and why this bloodshed occurred. The protests began last week when workers demanded a pay increase. This week's violence has forced Lonmin to freeze production at all its South African operations, which account for 12% of global platinum output. The company's London-listed shares fell more than 7% on Thursday. A spokesman at Lonmin's head office in London confirmed strikers had been served with an ultimatum to return to work on Thursday or face dismissal, but denied that might inflame the situation.

South Africa is a world leader in mining. The country is famous for its abundance of mineral resources, accounting for a significant proportion of world production and reserves, and South African mining companies are key players in the global industry

“Those who own the mines are chasing profits at the expense of people’s lives. We are losing mine workers on an almost daily basis. This is because of pure negligence.” / spokesman for the mine workers’ union (December 2007 Strike)

The death rate in the nation’s mines is significantly higher than it is in Australia or North America. Mining officials say that is because South African mines are among the world’s deepest and most labor-intensive. But union officials also cite a lack of concern for safety dating from the apartheid era, a dearth of qualified inspectors and a failure to punish mine managers for safety infractions. There is an urgent need for intervention in the way in which mine workers continue to operate in South Africa, despite the presence of unions. The three existing unions seem to grapple with the nature of their orientation, history and/ or the material condition of this country, which breeds corruption in the leadership of workers. Two of these unions are historically white unions and do not enjoy the support of the majority of miners. In pursuance of their objective, they seem to manage rather than to root out the problematic issues, such as labour broking. The majority union, NUM, on the other hand, seems to enjoy support of the majority of the workers in the mines. They use this popularity to either push their way through the political terrain and consequently the government, or find their way up the company. Those in the boardroom concentrate on who is employed, who is promoted to what level of the company, and who is to be sacrificed, either through retrenchment and/or dismissal. Most of the time, they conspire amongst themselves or fellow workers. When it suits them they are the best of communists and when it doesn't they are the darlings to their masters the employers.
Corruption, nepotism and all forms of unfair practice and/or favouritism go unabated and unchallenged. "Comrades" ask for bribes and/or sexual favours to enable one to get either employed or promoted as they are `the way, the truth and the light'. Workers are forced by mine bosses to work under appalling conditions safety wise; they are rushed to finish the job within unwritten targets. Injuries and/or deaths resulting from these activities are then not accounted for by company but by the victim. Refusing to comply is also not an option as one would open him/herself to victimisation that can lead to losing a job.
When workers die or are retrenched or dismissed, they get to claim their benefits, especially the provident fund. In the worst case scenario people wait for 2 years. Again, NUM is a major shareholder in the scheme. A number of former mine employees are in dire poverty, not through their own fault but through circumstances beyond their control.

About half of South Africa's gold miners suffer from silicosis, a life-threatening disease caused when silica from gold lodges in the lungs. The estimates range as high as almost 300,000 people who might have contracted the disease. The mining companies clearly have a big problem on their hands. Now there is a class action lawsuit, the largest in Africa’s history. Though people have mined gold in South Africa for decades, in the past, mining companies have claimed they comply with safety laws. Now, a couple of lawyers have come forward, claiming they have not. Hundreds of thousands of miners may have contracted silicosis in these mines, but  only about 7,000 have signed onto the class action lawsuit. Apartheid laws were structured in a way to ensure the mines could be supplied with cheap labor. Laws were formulated to protect the mining companies.

Illuminati symbolism of the 2012 London Olympics

Olympic Logo

Soon after the 2012 London Olympic logo was released to the press, Iran- the country led by know anti-semite and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad- protested and announced they may boycott the Games. Why? According to representatives of Ahmadinejad's regime, the scrambled, jagged figures within the logo don't form '2012', but rather the word 'zion'.

When you look at the Olympic logo, you'll see the dot gracing the symbol's center. Why does it have a dot in it? Where would a period be placed in the number 2012, which is what the jumbled 'numbers' supposedly represent? The dot is for "i" in the word zion. The man who first unscrambled the logo's 'numbers' and determined they are actually letters spelling the word 'zion' did so in 2008, soon after the 2012 symbol was announced and provided to the public. He was a young (25 years old or so) British man named Rik Clay, and he was a student of secret societies and their symbolism in everyday logos, on the U.S. dollar bill, etc. Clay, who seemed in good spirits during interviews just subsequent to his logo revelation, allegedly committed suicide soon after coming out with his discovery. Just two days after the Games logo that cost £400,000 was launched, there were widespread speculations that it represented the Nazi sign of swastika with some bloggers even raising questions that the designer was a Neo-Nazi as the logo appeared to have been deliberately turned to be more square than diamond. The BBC even said it had a phone call from a Jewish person who said the design was reminiscent of the swastika. There were also objections that the logo showed two characters from animated series “The Simpsons” in a sexual act (?)...

Olympic Mascots

Wenlock and Mandeville, (sounds like something from Harry Potter's kitchen) one eyed monsters ,according to Olympic organizers, were formed by drops of molten steel used to build the Olympic Stadium. Are they male or female? Neither or both... they are assexual. One eye, according to Olympic organizers, is there to let them "record everything." We don't see a smiling face, it's not a friendly eye. It's just watching you. The mascots were designed by London creative agency Iris. They are named after the Shropshire town of Much Wenlock, which held a forerunner of the current Olympic Games, and Stoke Mandeville Hospital, a facility in Buckinghamshire that initially organised the Stoke Mandeville Games, the precursor of the Paralympic Games. "All seeing eye" mascots are scaring children and projecting a creepy surveillance-state image of the Olympic games. Wenlock figurines in police gear have come under fire from dozens of online commenters decrying the "fascist playthings" and "totalitarian toys."

Olympic Stadium Lights

The triangular sources of 'illumination' that will be featured in worldwide broadcasts to millions of viewers, and preserved forever in still photographs of the 2012 Games, bear a striking similarity to the Illuminati pyramid symbolIf you get a close up of the lights, the outline of an eye is visible within the overall bulb pattern. Coincidence? I don't think so...

Olympic Torch

The aluminium torch, the creation of east London duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, has been named Design Of The Year.It has been hailed by prize organizers, the Design Museum, as a “beautiful symbol of the Olympic Games” which “also meets a demanding design brief”. The torch, which has been compared to a cheese grater, ashtray or an ice cream cone, won best product and then beat other category winners to international Design Of The Year.

Its pyramid top has 27 holes, an important number in illuminati symbolism. Occultists worship numbers. Particurarly the numbers 3, 7, 9,11,13, 33, 39. Any multiple of these numbers have special meaning to the Illuminati (3sides of triangle*9holes=27; 2+7=9=3*3). Ancient Greek pagans held nine sacred because to them nine symbolized the 9 Muses or sister goddesses, daughters of Zeus and Mnenosyne, who were believed to preside over mankind's activities on earth. Their names were--Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, Urania. Nine was also a significant number to the Etruscans. These ancient pagan people from north west Italy worshipped nine gods. Nine was also a holy number in Rome. Satanists take delight in the number nine for a couple of reasons. First, Satanists enjoy reversing, mirroring and inverting symbols, letters and numbers. When you turn the number "9" upside down you get "6" which makes up the number of the Beast (666). Satanists take perverse pleasure in commemorating the death of Christ and the death of Christ is associated with the number nine. According to the book "Numbers: Their Occult Power and Mystic Virtues" by W. W. Wescott nine holds great significance among many Masonic orders and secret societies. He said, "There is a Masonic order of Nine Elected Knights in which nine roses, nine lights, and nine knocks are used." In fact the number nine is the number of "the earth under evil influences." But that's just another coincidence.

Queen of England

She didn't look too happy after jumping out of helicopter with James Bond. A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said the Queen was "very happy" to perform in the Olympic film and "immensely enjoyed" the experience. In the past people have said she looks very serious, but that has always been deliberate because she feels she should not be seen laughing too much as it cheapens the position she holds. An unnoficial Bond girl has a strong sense of British humor, many say. She is a supreme ruler of the British Empire which currently covers 98% of the planet earth. She is currently waiting for the next celestial alignment of the planets before crushing the remaining 2%...

Syrian terrorist groups

On the "road to democracy", Syria now is the destination for terrorists and mercenaries from all over the globe, and the Arab world as well. Who are they?

Big Players

Saudi Arabia and Qatar are funding and arming militants via Turkey and the US is coordinating the logistical aspects of the operation. Salafi Muslims, who have come to "offer help" from the countries of the Persian Gulf region are arming and joining the so-called "Free Syrian Army." Weapons are ferried into Syria, delivered by Turkish military trucks and picked up by fighters on the other side in the dead of night. Saudi Arabia and Qatar are calling for "political transition and establishment of a democratic government in Syria." For the despotic, unelected, grandiose nepotism of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to call for a "democratic government in Syria" is truly a move made as much out of desperation as it is one of farcical hypocrisy. Turkey's backing of Syrian rebels leads to danger of Kurdish autonomy. As Turkey pushes for Assad’s ouster, chaos on its southern border has seen the possibility of a Kurdish-controlled region grow by the day. With millions of ethnic Kurds in Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran, destabilization in northern Syria has provided another base for the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) to launch military operations against Turkey in its struggle to establish an autonomous Kurdish state.

The foreign fighters, some of them are clearly drawn because they see this as a jihad. So this is a magnet for jihadists who see this as a fight for Sunni MuslimsMercenaries from Arab countries are operating within highly trained terrorist brigades, financed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar. In this regard, Israeli intelligence sources (August 2011) point to the direct involvement of NATO in the recruitment of jihadist “Muslim Volunteers”, in coordination with the Turkish military. In Homs, the Al Qaeda Faruq Brigade which includes mercenaries from Libya and Iraq have been involved in terrorizing the civilian population. They “have succeeded in expelling most of the Christians in Homs and have seized their homes by force”. ”Snipers were stationed in the street … preventing people from leaving their homes for two months, targeting passers-by and cars and anything that moved in the streets, adding that the terrorists also robbed houses, committed massacres, murders and kidnapping.”  According to the Iraqi Interior Ministry, the insurgents are smuggling weaponry across the border to support anti-Assad movement.

The Arab League has blocked the initiative that would be most productive to resolve the Syrian crisis peacefully. The League has suspended the observing mission even despite Assad's approval to extend it. Many connect the League's decision with the final report provided by the mission head, Sudanese General Mohammed al-Dabi. Al-Dabi dubbed the events in Syria as "violence on both sides" and "active insurgency" instead of "a popular anti-regime uprising." This might have struck Qatar, which is currently chairing the League, as a bit too pro-Assad.

Dogs of war from Libya

The face of Libya's "revolution" was literally Al Qaeda. Abdul Hakim Belhaj, commander of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG)listed by the US State Department as a "Foreign Terrorists Organization," was armed and backed by NATO (including the US) in his efforts to topple the government of Libya. Belhaj more recently pledged (NATO) weapons, cash, and Libyan militants to the "Free Syrian Army." Over 10,000 Libyans are reportedly being trained in a closed-off zone in Jordan, before being snuck into Syria to fight for the opposition. These men are allegedly paid around US$1,000 a month, funded by Saudi Arabia and Qatar

Jordan-based AlBawaba news website says most of the gunmen who are being trainedare actually part of the Libyan armed opposition, who have not had the chance to lay down arms following the toppling of Muammar Gaddafi's regime. Among those already killed in action are:  Al Mahdi Al Harati, ("Emir" of the Tripoli's Revolutionaries Brigade, one of the founders of the terrorist Liwaa al Umma Brigade in Syria),  Abdul Hakim Al Msharri,  (One of the leaders of Tripoli's Revolutionaries Brigade, one of the founders of the terrorist Liwaa al Umma Brigade in Syria),  Hussam Al Najjar,  (known as Sam, he fought in Libya and brought disgrace, and NATO, to his country),  Abdul Azim bin Naji Al Ati, ( A field leader from the terrorist Liwaa al Umman Brigade)...

Free Syrian Army

Its formation was announced on 29 July 2011 in a video released on the internet by a uniformed group of deserters from the Syrian military who called upon members of the Syrian army to defect and join them. The actual number of soldiers defecting to the Free Syrian Army is unknown. Riad al-Asaad, the leader of the group, has stated that the "Free Syrian Army" (FSA) has no political goals except the removal of Bashar Assad as president of Syria. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee on March 7, 2012 about issues that were restraining the United States from supporting the armed opposition in Syria.  “It is not clear what constitutes the Syrian armed opposition – there has been no single unifying military alternative that can be recognized, appointed, or contacted,” he said. The "Free Syrian Army" (FSA), nominally headquartered in Turkey is identifiable even if it is not unified.  Three of Syria’s most effective militias maintain direct ties to the "Free Syrian Army".  They include The Khalid bin Walid Brigade near Homs; the Harmoush Battalion in the northern Jebel al-Zawiya mountains; and the Omari Battalion in the southern Hawran plain. Other large and capable rebel groups do not maintain such a close relationship with the FSA headquarters in Turkey, but nevertheless refer to themselves as members of the "Free Syrian Army". The rebels will have to rely on external lines of supply to replenish their arms and ammunition if they are to continue eroding the regime’s control. The "Free Syrian Army" has stated that it does not have the resources to occupy and take control of territories, and instead relies primarily on hit and run and terrorist attacks al-Qaeda style. On 20 March 2012, Human Rights Watch released an open letter to the opposition, criticizing the opposition including the Free Syrian Army for incidents of kidnappings, torture and executions and it called on opposition forces to refrain from engaging in these unlawful practices. In a later report, the UN noted some credible allegations that rebel forces, including the FSA, were recruiting children as soldiers. Also, in an interview to AP, one rebel commander confirmed that his group had been releasing prisoners in bomb-rigged cars turning drivers into unwitting suicide bombersOn July 20, 2012, Iraq's deputy interior minister, Adnan al-Assadi, stated that Iraqi border guards had witnessed the FSA take control of a border outpost, detain a Syrian army lieutenant colonel, and then cut off his arms and legs before then executing 22 Syrian soldiers. On August 1, 2012, several leaked videos showed footage of FSA linked rebels executing prisoners. Another witness reported FSA linked rebels conducting 'trial by grave' in which an alleged government soldier was given a mock trial next to a pre-made grave and executed on the spot. On August 5, 2012, a report emerged that 45 government soldiers were captured during fighting in Al Tal, north of Damascus. Eight of the captured soldiers were executed, 25 released and the rest held for future prisoner exchanges. It was also once again reported that the rebel Daoud Battalion, operating in the Jebel al Zawiyah area in Idlib province, was tying captured soldiers to car-bombs and making them to be unwilling suicide bombers against Army positions. A rebel commander in Damascus said that over the months his unit had executed perhaps 150 people it had detained on suspicion of being pro-Assad informants. Other "heroic acts" of this terrorist group include blowing up any symbol of the state, even schools, tv studios post offices and hospitals...

Friends of Syria (The Western Military alliance)

The arrest of the French military officers (circa 22nd of February) –which coincided with the beginning of Kofi Annan’s peacemaking mandate (February 28th)– was hushed up by the Al Assad government, largely with a view to avoiding undue controversy within the sphere of United Nations diplomacy. Yet the decision by the Al Assad government to avoid raising the issue of Western military support to “opposition” forces has provided Washington and its allies with the upper hand. While claiming to represent the “international community”, the Atlantic Alliance is not only behind the armed insurrection, it is providing support and training to Al Qaeda affiliated terrorist brigades. With Western forces and military advisers inside Syria, the so-called peace plan brokered by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has all the appearances of a staged event.
Peace Plan with Whom? A  “Cease Fire” cannot be implemented without clearly identifying the identity of the parties involved. A real peace plan would require addressing the illegal presence of  foreign military personnel on Syrian soil. The Kofi Annan peace plan called for a cease-fire on “both sides”, while failing to acknowledge that foreign forces from NATO countries are directly involved in the conflict, on  the “side” of the “opposition”. Not surprisingly,  immediately upon the adoption of the UN Arab League brokered Peace Plan, the “opposition” forces including the terrorist brigades, under the guidance of their foreign military handlers, decided to ignore the peace plan: renewed attacks by opposition gunmen directed against Syrian forces and civilians were reported  in several cities immediately following the adoption of the peace plan. Meanwhile, the Al Assad government was urged to “halt the killings” and Damascus was casually blamed for  “breaking the ceasefire”. A “Responsibility to Protect” (R2P) intervention under a NATO mandate remains on the drawing board of the Pentagon. Dimitry Rogozin, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister intimated last September that NATO is planning a military campaign against Syria, with specific attack scenarios. At the same time, several Iranian news sources report that some 50 Turkish officers arrested in Syria, have confirmed that they were trained by the Israeli Special Forces to carry out insurgent acts against the Syrian government and President Bashar al-Assad. Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, post-war Libya, Turkey, Israel - this list of countries drawn into conspiracy media speculation would be incomplete without recent remarks from the Russian Foreign Ministry. British MI6 agents are already on the ground in Syria. This is the first time such a declaration has come from a ministry. The media have been boiling with reports on foreign Special Forces training the Syrian opposition since November. Thus, the Israeli DEBKAfile reported that British and Qatari commandos are instructing the Syrian opposition and supplying them with arms. The French weekly Le Canard Enchaine and Turkish daily Milliyet revealed the presence of French intelligence in the region, also instructing the Free Syrian Army in urban guerrilla techniques. These camps were located in Libya's Tripoli, southern Turkey and northern Lebanon, read the reports.  The emergence of al-Qaeda-linked terrorist cells working against the regime poses risks to the United States and a challenge to those calling for material support of the armed opposition. American objectives in Syria are to hasten the fall of the Assad regime; to contain the regional spillover generated by the ongoing conflict; and to gain influence over the state and armed forces that emerge in Assad’s wake. US President Barack Obama has signed a secret order allowing the CIA and other American agencies to support rebels seeking to overthrow the Assad regime, a US government source told Reuters. The Obama administration has been open about providing non-military support to the Syrian opposition. On Wednesday, the State Department said it had allotted a total of $25 million for “non-lethal” assistance to the "Free Syrian Army".
There are fears that, although most Syrian rebels are fighting for an Islamic state (not democracy), there will be no common understanding of what exactly this state should be, and that the civil war may become an all-out sectarian conflict. The UN estimates that up to 1.5 million people may have been displaced following the uprisings against embattled president Assad that broke out last March.Given the consequences of losing, the regime is likely to fight to the end. The scale of unrest in Syria has made it impossible for the regime’s security forces to simultaneously garrison all of the country’s key terrain. The regime has maintained control over Syria’s armed forces, despite limited defections. Therefore, the regime’s strategy has been to maneuver elite forces to key centers of unrest and conduct large clearance operations, using selective brutality in an effort to end the crisis.
