Kosovo syndrome

In the offices of the newly elected "Kosovo government" in Pristina a declaration of independence is being prepared. A new state is about to be born on Europe's borders. Kosovo's leaders have vowed to proclaim sovereignty on february 17th.
A unilateral declaration of independence from Kosovo would unsettle the Balkans and embolden separatist movements everywhere. Kosovo will NEVER be independent, take a look at Bosnia, are they independent? I don' think so. Giving Albanians a brand new state bordering their homeland, on Serbian soil, could never resolve this crisis. It could only get worse. This is an insult, not only to Serbian sovereignity but also to the United Nations. Serbia's prime minister Kostunica, has denounced plans to sign an accord with the European Union as a trick to end the country's opposition to an independent Kosovo.
"The EU's proposal to sign a political agreement with Serbia while at the same time sending a mission to break apart our state is a deception aimed at getting Serbia effectively to sign its agreement to Kosovo independence," Kostunica said on Tuesday. By putting its signature to the agreement, Serbia would "thus become the first state to indirectly recognise an independent Kosovo," he said.
On Monday, the EU formaly authorized a 2,000 strong civilian mission to Serbian brakeaway province. This would be an illegal mission, unauthorized by UN Security Council and could be considered as a threat to Serbian independence.
"This decision to send a mission means that the EU, together with the Albanian separatists, is creating a fictitious Albanian state on Serbian territory," Serbia's prime minister added.
